Tennis Elbow Surgery Dallas
Overuse of the elbow can lead to an inability to use the affected arm. Tennis elbow surgery could be required for those in Plano or Frisco who are suffering from excessive elbow movement. Performed by board-certified plastic surgeon Charles A. Wallace, M.D., tennis elbow surgery has benefited hundreds of our Dallas area patients.
What is Tennis Elbow Surgery?
Tennis elbow is a condition that describes an injury to the muscle and/or tendon that surrounds the outer elbow. Although not restricted to tennis players, it is nonetheless common among people who routinely perform rigorous, swinging motions with their arms. Most people experience tennis elbow only on their dominant arm, but it could also be felt in the non-dominant arm or in both arms simultaneously.
During tennis elbow surgery, Dr. Wallace will remove any damaged or diseased muscle that may be causing you discomfort and then reattach the remaining muscle back to the bone. He may use an open method, which requires making an incision across the elbow or an arthroscopic method that utilizes an arthroscope or very small camera that is inserted into the joint.
Benefits of Tennis Elbow Surgery
Instances of tennis elbow may often be cured simply by avoiding triggers or limiting activity. In the event, these two things do not alleviate symptoms, tennis elbow surgery may be the only other way to obtain relief.
Is Tennis Elbow Surgery Right for Me?
You could be a good candidate for tennis elbow surgery if:
- Your symptoms have persisted for six to 12 months
- Other treatment methods have been unsuccessful
- You have suffered repeated tennis elbow injuries over a period of several months or years
Elements of a Tennis Elbow Surgery
The elements involved in a tennis elbow procedure are:
- Local or general anesthesia to ensure the area is numb
- Tiny incisions that allow Dr. Wallace to access tendons and other tissue
- Sutures to connect muscle to bone and to close the incision
- A splint or brace to stabilize the elbow
How much Does Tennis Elbow Surgery Cost?

Some of our tennis elbow procedures may be covered by insurance, in which case we will do our best to ensure you receive all the benefits you are entitled to under your plan.

After Your Tennis Elbow Surgery
You will wear your splint or brace for approximately one week. During this time, you should not submerge the affected elbow or forearm in water. After removing the splint, you should increase your activity level gradually in order to prevent re-injury.
Getting Back to Normal Following Tennis Elbow Surgery
You will have a follow-up visit approximately one week after your procedure. During that appointment, Dr. Wallace will give you a list of stretching exercises to perform at home to improve flexibility. He will also provide you with a timeline of when you can return to athletic activity, such as weightlifting or racquet sports.
