Hand Reconstruction Surgery Dallas

Most people do not realize how often they use their hands until after one of them has become damaged. Hand reconstruction surgery could be needed to help you live a more normal lifestyle again. Numerous Plano and Frisco area patients have been given a new start through hand reconstruction surgery performed by board-certified plastic surgeon Charles A. Wallace, M.D.

What is Hand Reconstruction Surgery?

Hand reconstruction surgery involves reshaping and rebuilding a hand that has become deformed through injury or disease. It can involve restructuring the hand itself or creating artificial fingers to replace ones that were amputated.

Benefits of Hand Reconstruction Surgery

Those who suffer from a hand deformity may be unable to perform ordinary tasks, such as dressing or bathing themselves. A hand reconstruction procedure can allow these individuals to regain their independence and sense of self-worth. When reconstruction is performed to repair damaged nerves, the patient may once again have feeling in all or part of the hand.

Is Hand Reconstruction Surgery Right for Me?

To determine if hand reconstruction is right for you, ask yourself these questions:

  • Are you bothered by a hand that is severely deformed?
  • Have you noticed a loss of sensation?
  • Do you have difficulty performing routine tasks that were no problem for you before?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then you could be a good candidate for hand reconstruction surgery.

We perform hand reconstruction surgeries for the following conditions:

Getting Back to Normal Following Hand Reconstruction

It’s important to note that you may not have full use of your hand immediately following surgery. It could take several weeks for you to regain normal usage again. Physical therapy may be required in some instances as well.
