Blepharoplasty Dallas

Jump To:

As we age, drooping eyelids can become a problem for men and women making them look tired and run down no matter how much sleep they get. Charles A. Wallace, M.D., a TX board-certified plastic surgeon performs blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) on patients in Dallas, Plano and Frisco, TX, as well as the surrounding areas that want a more youthful and refreshed appearance.

What is Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) is performed on patients who suffer from sagging/puffy eyelids and may have a tired or rundown appearance. Severe cases of drooping eyelids may impede vision making it necessary to have blepharoplasty to correct the issue. The procedure involves removing extra skin and fat to reveal a more alert and rested appearance. It is among the most common aesthetic procedures performed by plastic surgeons.

The Art of Natural Looking Face with Blepharoplasty

When done correctly, blepharoplasty leaves patients with a natural looking appearance instead of a permanent surprised expression. The goal with most patients having this procedure is to give them a vibrant and younger looking face. For those with vision issues from the excess skin on the upper lids, blepharoplasty can fully correct this issue.

Benefits of Blepharoplasty

As one of the most requested cosmetic procedures, blepharoplasty, offers the following benefits:

  • Removal of excess skin on the upper eyelid
  • Reduced puffiness around and below the eye
  • Better vision if excess skin obscures it
  • Much more pleasant, well rested and youthful appearance

Is Blepharoplasty Right for Me?

If you have excess skin on your upper eyelids that either affects your vision or makes you look haggard and unhappy all the time, eyelid surgery may be the best option for you. It is important to be healthy, psychologically stable and well-motivated so that you have a realistic outlook on the procedure. If you suffer from health issues as thyroid disease or high blood pressure, or a condition where you don’t make enough tears.

Elements of Blepharoplasty

One of the main benefits of eyelid surgery is that it is a quick procedure done on an outpatient basis and usually takes less than two hours to complete. The procedure may be done under either local anesthesia without sedation, local anesthetic with some sedation or full general anesthesia. Dr. Wallace makes sure you are very comfortable throughout the entire process and feel nothing except for maybe a slight tugging.

Small incisions are made in the places where the excess tissue is removed. Muscles are also tightened. When complete, the incisions are stitched up, and you are allowed to rest until you feel up to leaving.
If you have a transconjunctival blepharoplasty, where pockets of fat underneath your lower eyelid is removed by making a small incision in the lower eyelid. There is no scar once healed, but the procedure is better suited for younger patients who have thicker, more elastic skin.

After researching for about a month on the upcoming surgery that I wanted to get done, I choose Dr. Wallace office for my consultation. Although I felt I had so many of my questions answered based on my own research, Dr. Wallace still educated me on information that only a doctor would know with YEARS OF EXPERIENCE under their belt. The consultation went so smooth. I booked my surgery that day. 2 weeks later I had my surgery and NOW I am 1 month out of surgery and I’m in love with my results. It was everything I wanted and MORE!!! I followed all of instructions he and his staff gave me. Everyone was polite, friendly and professional. Dr. Wallace made this girl VERY happy.

How Much Does Blepharoplasty Cost?

The cost for blepharoplasty varies with each patient, as it is common to have this procedure with other cosmetic surgeries. With blepharoplasty, the procedure may be medically necessary when done to correct vision issues making it possible for insurance to offset the cost. However, if it is cosmetic, the patient is responsible for the expense. We accept cash, check, Visa®, MasterCard®, American Express® and Discover®, as well as offer financing options with Prosper® Healthcare Lending.

After Your Blepharoplasty

Overall, the healing process is fairly quick, and you will be fully recovered within a couple of weeks. It is common to have some discomfort and other effects around the eyes which can be treated with prescription eye drops, ointments, and medications to help alleviate them and even aid in the healing process.

One week after surgery, we remove the stitches, but you may still have some redness, which goes away within a few weeks. The redness can be covered up with makeup while it diminishes.
When you come for surgery, please make sure you have someone with you to drive you home, as you are under anesthesia during the procedure and may have some vision impairment immediately after the surgery is complete.

Getting Back to Normal Following Blepharoplasty

It typically takes about two weeks of healing before you may return to work. While there still may be redness, it is easily covered with makeup. Be very careful about exposing the areas to sunlight with tinted glasses or dark eye protection. Because Dr. Wallace is very skilled at performing blepharoplasty, he is very precise at placing the incision where any slight scarring is undetectable.
