Planning for Your Mommy Makeover

During your consultation, once you and Dr. Wallace have elected to opt for the mommy makeover, he will give you all the information you need to plan for your mommy makeover.

Preparing for Your Mommy Makeover

Before surgery, prepare your life to be as simple as possible for two weeks. If you have children, it would be a good idea to arrange for someone to take care of them for at least the first 24-48 hours. You will not be able to pick them up and care for them in the way they’ve become accustomed to. You must have a friend or family member watch you during your first night after surgery (this is mandatory). This person should be able to refresh your ice packs as needed, give you fluids, prepare your food, check on you throughout the night and most importantly, recognize if there are any problems or complications.

The Mommy Makeover Procedure

The mommy makeover procedure consists of a number or possible customizable procedures. The mommy makeover breast lift elevates the nipple and areola to a more youthful position with the use of incisions that surround the nipple and may extend vertically down from the nipple and/or continue along the inframammary fold. The extent of the incisions is determined by the amount of skin laxity present, as well as the distance of lift required. Frequently, a breast augmentation is also performed to restore volume and further improve the contour of the breasts.

The abdominal portion of a mommy makeover can range from a mini abdominoplasty or tummy tuck to a full abdominoplasty. In a mini tummy tuck, the incision is placed low on the abdomen and does not involve any incision to or movement of the belly button. A full tummy tuck will require this additional incision around the umbilicus, as well as a longer transverse abdominal incision. Liposuction is frequently performed in conjunction with the abdominal procedure, to better contour the hips and waists for ideal results.

After Your Mommy Makeover

The recovery after a mommy makeover with Dr. Wallace is generally more involved than most procedures because both the breasts and abdomen undergo a surgical procedure. Patients will need to plan on having a friend or loved one available to help them for the first few days after surgery. In most cases a restful week off of work is necessary to allow for an appropriate recovery. Some patients may consider taking additional time off depending on their line of work.

Getting Back to Normal Following Your Mommy Makeover

You will be given a thorough post-operative instruction sheet written by Dr. Wallace. Following these instructions will help reduce the risk of complications after surgery and ensure the excellence of your results. Dr. Wallace will let you know when you can expect to resume all normal activities, and he will monitor your post-operative recovery diligently.
