Sculptra
Sculptra: Sculptra injections are one of the most exciting new technologies to come on the plastic surgery scene in years. Developed from a common suture material over the last 10 years, Sculptra has been used for a number of years in European clinics and was approved by the F.D.A. for filling the hollow face deformities of A.I.D.S. patients in 2004. Cosmetic uses have developed in the cheek, around the eyes and along the nasolabial folds as well as elsewhere.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: What / Where do you see this a being most useful in cosmetic patients?
A: So far around the outside of the eyes, along the cheekbone and down the nasolabial fold. It can also be used at the root of the nose and along the jawbone to add tissue thickness and obscure humps and bumps.
Q: How long does it last?
A: Depends on the area and the patient but results look to last at least 2 ? 3 years or longer.
Q: What about plumping the lips?
A: So far that looks like an area better suited for Restylane or fat injections.
Q: Is this a one time treatment or multiple sessions?
A: Because Sculptra lasts a long time, over treatment is a potential problem. Most people will require 2 ? 4 treatments depending on the area, desired results, etc.
Q: Is this done under anesthesia or what?
A: It depends on the patient and the extent of the treatment. Most patients will need only a mild, oral sedation.
Q: You seem pretty excited about this? What is so special about Sculptra?
A: The lasting and predicable nature of the correction achieved make Sculptra special. I see being able to contour and mold the results to give a youthful fullness not readily accomplished with the predictability that we have not had with some materials. Combining Sculptra with Contour Threads or a facial peel and laser may be the truly non surgical facelift many people have asked for over the years.
